Mr. Shotaro Hayashigatani Awarded Order of the Sacred Treasure |

On June 16, Mr. Shotaro Hayashigatani, Principal of the Port of Sacramento Japanese School and Professor Emeritus at California State University, Sacramento, was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, at a conferment ceremony held at the official residence of the Consul General of Japan. The ceremony was attended by over 30 guests, including members of the Port of Sacramento Japanese Language School, members of the Japanese Chambers of Commerce of Northern California (JCCNC), and Mr. Hayashigatani¡Çs family and friends.
In his congratulatory remarks, Consul General Yasumasa Nagamine described Mr. Hayashigatani¡Çs many accomplishments in (1) establishing the Port of Sacramento Japanese Language School, managing the school for 30 years as principal, and educating Japanese children in the Sacramento area; and (2) creating the Japanese studies program at California State University, Sacramento, and thereby contributing to the growth of Japanese language education and Japanese studies. The Consul General also lauded Mr. Hayashigatani¡Çs contributions to deepening the economic and cultural relationship between Japan and the United States, as well as the friendship between Japan and Northern California.
Mr. Hayashigatani expressed gratitude in response to the Consul General¡Çs congratulatory remarks and shared some of his fond memories from the days when he established the Japanese studies program at California State University, Sacramento. He also touched upon his experience as the school's principal,emphasizing his motto in education: raising ¡Èyoung earthlings.¡É
Mr. Kiyoshi Naito, the former chair of JCCNC, delivered a congratulatory address on behalf of all who were present at the event, and Mr. Tetsushi Fukumitsu, Vice President of Japan Club raised a toast, upon which all in attendance congratulated Mr. Hayashigatani.
