On Monday, November 9th, Consul General Nagamine visited Dr. Janet Holmgren, President of Mills College. At the meeting that took place prior to the Consul General's talk on Japan's political situation, he discussed various areas where the Consulate and Mills College could collaborate to enhance U.S.-Japan exchange at the higher-education level. Known as the first institution for higher education for women in the Western United States, Mills College has been active in exchange with Japanese women's colleges, and is known as the alma mater of Ms. Beate Sirota Gordon, who participated in drafting a new constitution for Japan during the post-war years.

Consul General Nagamine gave a talk on Japan’s political climate at Mills College |
On Monday, November 9th, Consul General Nagamine gave a lecture at Mills College on the recent developments in Japan¡Çs political landscape. In the talk titled "A Heisei Reformation - Changes under the New DPJ Government," Consul General not only explained the emergence of the new DPJ administration as a result of their landslide victory, but also gave detailed explanations of a series of policies announced by the new coalition government, based on Prime Minister Hatoyama's Policy Speech on October 26th (please refer to the attached slides). The talk was arranged by Professor Wah Cheng of the Department of History and was attended by the faculty members including the Head of the Department of Government, students, and researchers, totaling 70 attendees. The lecture was followed by Q&A session and a reception
