On January 9th and 10th, the 6th annual JUNBA (Japanese University Network in the Bay Area) Symposium and Summit was held with participation of universities in Northern California and Japan.
This meeting focused on the theme of "Institutional Research and Enrollment Management- Keys toward Internationalizing Japanese Universities". On Jan 9th, three presenters from the University of California Office of the President (UCOP) including Mr. Bruce Darling, Vice President, spoke about the organization and the functions of the University of California system, addressing the essential points of institutional research (IR) and enrollment management (EM). On Jan 10th, stimulated by the talks of the UCOP speakers, Japanese university leaders and participants of US universities exchanged their views and experiences about management of the universities, with special emphasis given to the policies of nurturing students and the measures used to achieve these policies through the use of IR and EM.
On this occasion, Consul General Hiroshi Inomata and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) co-hosted the reception for the JUNBA 2012 participants. Also Consul General Inomata made an opening remark at the opening of the JUNBA 2012 Summit.
