Consul General Hiroshi Inomata joined a meeting of the California Seismic Safety Commission in Sacramento on January 12 and presented on the status of Japan's reconstruction efforts and economic recovery initiatives 10 months following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
After reiterating Japan's deep appreciation for the compassion and support shown by California and the US after the disaster, Consul General Inomata explained in detail about the current situation in Japan as well as reconstruction and economic recovery policies. He also spoke about Japan's seismic safety measures and the earthquake's impact on the economy and energy policy. A presentation followed from the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Northern California, during which President Haruki and Vice President Tomita described the Japanese business and industrial sectors' responses to the earthquake.
The Commission expressed its thanks for the reports, and both parties pledged to further develop the seismic information exchange and discussions on this critical shared issue for California and Japan.
