"Bonseki" Lecture and Demonstration Back

On Saturday, January 21st, the Consulate General of Japan co-hosted the "Bonseki" Lecture and Demonstration together with the Satsuki-Kai, the Asian Art Museum, and the Japan Society of Northern California at the Samsung Hall of the Asian Art Museum.
Following the chorus by members of the Satsuki-Kai and the introduction movie of "Bonseki,"Mrs. Midori Inomata, wife of the Consul General of Japan in San Francisco and Honorary President of the Satsuki-Kai, lectured and demonstrated the art of "Bonseki." Performing a live show of creating Bonseki in front of more than 150 participants, Mrs. Inomata introduced and explained the traditional Japanese culture and art of portraying scenery by the ingenious arrangement of quartz sand, pebbles and natural rocks on a black lacquer tray.
