Nearly 250 members of the community gathered at the Palo Alto Hills Golf and Country Club on January 27th for a New Year's celebration held by the Keizai Society, US-Japan Business Forum. Attendees were joined by Keizai Society President, Chimmy Shioya, as well as other leaders and guests from the business community in the Bay Area. Moreover, Consul General Inomata, Mrs. Inomata, and other Consuls from the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco were also in attendance.
Following President Shioya's welcome speech and introduction of the Keizai board, the Keizai Society awarded Yoshi Akiba the Lifetime Achievement Award for her successes as a prominent artist and entrepreneur.
In his speech, Consul General Inomata congratulated award recipient Yoshi Akiba and also reiterated Japan's deep appreciation for the generous support from Californians, including the Keizai Society community after the March 11th earthquake. He also spoke about how the centennial anniversary of Japan's gift of 3,000 cherry trees to the United States in 1912 offers a chance to further strengthen US-Japan relations in 2012. After the Kagami Biraki Ceremony (the sake barrel breaking ceremony), attendees had the opportunity to exchange ideas and views on various topics including the upcoming year's business climate.
