Consul General Inomata Hosts a Reception to Promote US-Japan University-level Exchange on the Occasion of the Opening of the Waseda University SF Office Back

On August 8th, Consul General Inomata hosted a reception on the occasion of the opening of the San Francisco office of Waseda University. This opportunity was used commemorate the opening and to promote US-Japan university-level exchange, as nearly 70 individuals representing various institutions were in attendance. Representatives from the University of California, a local institution which is constantly furthering its ties with Japanese universities, individuals from the Bay Area Japanese University Network (JUNBA), and members from the California State University system discussed topics such as study abroad programs.

Due to JUNBAs international operations, this region has a staggering amount of exchange between Japanese and U.S. Universities, and Consul General Inomata expressed his desire to continue to support such interactions.

From Waseda University, President Kaoru Kamata introduced the idea of Waseda Vision 150, and spoke regarding the recent activities of the University. Vice-President Uchida and Professor Yamakawa, Senior Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, gave their remarks regarding developing international relations, and exchange with the United States.

Representing the University of California, Dr. Susan Carlson, Vice Provost for Academic Personnel at the University of California Office of the President, spoke in regards to the long-standing relationship between the University of California and Japan, their various academic exchange programs, including study abroad programs.

Lastly, Dr. Masao Matsuo, JUNBA President (Kyushu University), expressed that there is a lot to gain from the new, innovative approaches found in the Silicon Valley, and would like to further relations between Japanese and U.S. Universities through JUNBA.
