Student Scholarship |
The Japanese Government is now offering scholarships to American students who wish to study at Japanese universities as either graduate or research students (1.5 to 2 years) for the 2014 academic year.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
To apply, applicants must:
Hold U.S. citizenship;
(Applicants who hold Japanese nationality at the time of application are not eligible.)
Have been born on or after April 2, 1979;
Be a university graduate (at the time of participation on the program) or have completed 16 years of school education (See "QUALIFICATIONS" on the Scholarship Information Sheet for more details.);
Be able to leave for Japan in either April 2014 or October 2014;
Apply for the field that he/she currently studies or previously studied at
the university level.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

All applications submitted to our office by Friday, June 14, 2013 will be screened. |

Those candidates who pass the initial screening will be invited to take a Japanese language examination and an optional English examination. The examinations and an interview will take place at the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco. Language examinations will be conducted on Thursday, July 18, 2013. Interviews will be conducted on Friday, July 19, 2013. (This schedule is subject to change on short notice based on the House of Councilors election scheduled for July or August.) |

The applicants who pass all three screenings (application, examination, and interview) will be instructed to contact a professor at the Japanese university of his/her preference to obtain a letter of provisional acceptance from the university. |
COMPLETED APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY OUR OFFICE NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, JUNE 14, 2013.
