In the year 2002, approximately 55,000 students from 145 countries around
the world attended schools in Japan, studying and conducting research in
a wide variety of fields. Each year, the Japanese Ministry of Education,
Culture, Sport, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho) offers scholarships
to international students, providing hundreds with the opportunity to live
and study in Japan. Information on these scholarships is included below,
and we encourage you to take advantage of these unique opportunities to
learn more about Japan, its people and its culture. Please note that the
Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco can only accept scholarship
applications from US citizens who live, study or work in Northern California
and Nevada. If you currently reside outside of our consulate's jurisdiction,
please contact our office for information on how to reach your nearest
Consulate General of Japan.
