In recent years, the number of those who come to Japan to study at universities
and other institutions of higher education has increased greatly. According
to statistics as of May 1, 2000, the number of foreign students studying
at institutions of higher education in Japan has surpassed 64,011.
It is important for you to give careful consideration to your own motivation
and objectives such as:
 |
Time and length of study: When do you wish to begin
studying in Japan, and how long do you want to stay? |
 |
Level: What kind of educational institution do you
wish to begin studying at in Japan, and how long do you want to stay? |
 |
Special field: Some educational institutions will not
offer courses in the field in which you wish to specialize. |
 |
Degree: Do you wish to obtain a degree? |
Although a certain level of knowledge in Japanese is vital to stay and study
in Japan, there are some institutions which offer; 1) courses for a degree in
English, or 2) study abroad programs mainly for Japan-related studies in Japan
for a certain period of time (usually one year) while maintaining your student
status at your university in home country.
Here is a list of many of these institutions, but for further information you
may want to refer to the institutions directly or the Association of International
Education, Japan(AIEJ). The Japan Information Center also has college catalogs
of those institutions.
