The 2013 JET Program Application in now available through the Embassy of Japan's Website in Washington D.C. HERE All applications must be received by 5:30pm EST, November 21, 2012 to:

Late application materials will not be accepted, only those complete applications which arrive on time.

The application procedure has two stages:

All application documents submitted by the deadline date are screened at the Embassy of Japan in Washington, D.C. to determine which candidates will continue to the interview stage. All materials must be received by the Embassy on or prior to the deadline date. Early submission of your application and all required documents in one package is encouraged. The Embassy will not consider any applications that arrive past the deadline. Even if applications are postmarked prior to or on the deadline but arrive past the day of the deadline, they will not be evaluated. Submitted documents, including late applications, will not be returned.

Candidates who pass the initial screening stage are interviewed for final selection at the location they indicate on their application. Interview sites cannot be changed without the consent of the Embassy's JET Program Office.


 

JET PROGRAM CALENDAR

Initial Screening: January
Applications are screened initially at the Embassy during January.

 

Interviewing: February
During February those applicants who pass the initial screening are interviewed at the Embassy or consulate the applicant selected on the application form. Interview dates and other details will be supplied to the selected applicants.

 

Announcement of Results: Late March / Early April
Final results are announced to successful, unsuccessful and alternate candidates by early April. Alternates will be notified of whether or not they can participate between April and October.

 

Alumni-Led Orientation & Orientation Activities: May-July
Thousands of JET Program alumni have gone on to pursue a variety of careers, and are a valuable resource for both new and returning JETs. In many regions, local chapters of the JET Alumni Association conduct orientations and other activities in which former JET participants have the opportunity to share their experiences with new participants.

 

Pre-Departure Orientation and Departure: Late July
Before departing to Japan , successful candidates receive written materials on the program as well as a basic Japanese language text and cassette tapes. Pre-departure orientation takes place at the Embassy and Consulates of Japan just prior to departure, and all participants leave together on the same day.
