Cultural and Community Center of Northern California (JCCCNC) | JCCCNC
is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the Japanese American cultural
heritage and history. it is also dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for
all age groups by constructing, developing and managing a multi-service center
located in the Japantown area of San Francisco. The centralized facility houses
several community organizations and provides a variety of services which include
community, cultural, educational and recreational programs.
Foothill
College Japanese Cultural Center | The Japanese Cultural Center
at Foothill College, with an authentic chashitsu (tea room) and chaniwa (tea garden),
is a volunteer based membership-sustaining organization. Its events and programs
for the public include: lecture / demonstrations by visiting or local Japanese
artists and craftsmen, seasonal festivals, business talks, Japanese films, and
general interest presentations. One recent presentation was on cuisine preparation
using bamboo shoots from the bamboo grove on the hillside. For more information,

Speaking Society of America (Beikoku Nichigo Kyokai) | The purpose
of the Japanese Speaking Society is to encourage the learning and use of Japanese
Language, improve relationships between people living in the United States and
Japan. The Society conducts Japanese Speech Contests as annual event for Japanese
Schools student as well as non-native Japanese speakers. Also the society has
a adult Speech contest in San Francisco. Moreover, the society will have such
programs as lectures of Japanese history, music, art, as well as demonstrations
of Japanese painting, calligraphy, cooking and flower arrangement.

Federation
of S.F. Bay and Coastal Area Japanese Schools | The Japan Project
of the Asia/Pacific Project, SPICE, develops supplementary, interdisciplinary,
and interactive curriculum for the K-12 Classroom. Published curriculum topics
include folktales, haiku, Japanese history, Japanese religion, symbolism in Japanese
language and culture, U.S.-Japan economic relations, history of U.S.-Japan relations,

Western Secondary Teachers of Japanese (SWSTJ) | Southwestern
Secondary Teachers of Japanese (SWSTJ) was founded in August of 1992. Prior to
that time, there was a group made up of secondary teachers of Japanese in Northern
California called Northern California Secondary Teachers of Nihongo (NorCSToN).
SWSTJ was the natural development from NorCSToN to serve more teachers in the
boarder area. Currently, SWSTJ serves secondary teachers in California, Nevada
and Arizona. The membership at present is 86. The group's activities include one
general annual meeting, two regional meetings (southern and northern California),
monthly Benkyoukai (monthly study session) in the south and the north and annual
Speech Contest to promote Japanese learning in the secondary level. The group
also publishes quarterly newsletter. it is affiliated with NCSTJ which is the
national organization of the secondary teachers of Japanese.

Ikebana
International, S.F./Bay Area Chapter | The Ikenobo Ikebana Society
of America, a non-profit organization, is continually striving to promote goodwill
and friendship through the art of idebana, Japanese flower arranging. Our headquarters
office in San Francisco actively assists with communication between our various
chapters, groups, and individuals. We currently have 39 official chapters in the
United Sates and Canada, with many individual groups.
Ohara
Ikebana School of Northern California | The Ohara Ikebana School
of Northern California aims to perpetuate intrinsic principles of the Ohara School
through a Japanese-America Cultural medium and provides a place for the teachers
and the students to exchange cultural ideas, to keep the current of the latest
development, and to be cognizant of new techniques and style trends introduced
by Headmaster. The school also sponsors workshops, study and research sessions,
and fellowship meetings and participates in various events in the northern California,
such as San Francisco annual Cherry Blossom festival.

Sogetsu
Ikebana | Sogetsu Bay Area Branch is a cultural, educational and
non-profit branch of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana. The general purpose of this
organization is to stimulate, cultivate and perpetuate the study of flower arrangement
of the Sogetsu School among students and teachers; and by workshops, demonstrations
and exhibitions to the public, further goodwill and understanding of the art in
the community.

Senke Domonkai Northern California Region | Since Omotesenke Domonkai
Northern California Region was founded in 1969, we have been practicing Omotesenke
tea ceremony by Rikyu. Now we have two hundred thirty members including twenty
eight instructors who are officially certified by omotesenke Domonkai in Kyoto,
Japan. And also we have annual Summer seminar for three days in August, overseen
by two instructors from Kyoto.

Urasenke
San Francisco Association | An association members of the Urasenke
Tea School in Kyoto. Established in 1960 to introduce Japanese culture and art
through the Tea Ceremony, the chapter also preserves and practices the Japanese
heritage of language, manner, appreciation and beauty of the Tea Ceremony. A non-profit
organization with 250 members (open to anyone). The chapter hosts the Memorial
Tea Ceremony and participates in the Cherry Blossom Festival as well as other
events.
Urasenke
Foundation, San Francisco | The Urasenke Foundation, San Francisco
Center represents the 400 year old Urasenke Tradition of Tea in the United States.
This non-profit foundation is devoted to public service educational programs on
chanoyu (the tradition of preparing, serving, and drinking powdered green tea)
and Japanese culture. The Foundation offers opportunities to learn more about
chanoyu and Japanese culture through direct participation in tea gatherings, lectures,
workshops, and other events. The Foundation also serves as a resource center for
local and visiting scholars and offers introductory through advanced instruction
in chanoyu.

Hanayagi Japanese Dance | This group specializes in teaching men
and women of all ages the art of Japanese Classical Dance. The group also specializes
in performing cultural dance performances from small gatherings to large company
functions. It has done shows in Italy, Australia, Canada, Japan and the U.S. besides
local activities.

Fujima
Rokushige Japanese Classical Dance Studio | The studio was established
in 1955 by Mme. Rokushige Fujima. This studio is the oldest in existence today
in San Francisco. Mme Fujima and her students hold a recital once a year, and
participate in the San Francisco annual Cherry Blossom Festival and many other
community functions throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

Francisco Taiko Dojo | Grandmaster Tanaka founded the original
San Francisco Taiko Dojo in 1968, bringing taiko as an art form to America. Taiko
Dojo was the first taiko group in the country but, over the years, Seichi tanaka's
students have travelled across the globe, forming new taiko ensembesand establishing
taiko as an art form. The most exciting and dynamic taiko group in the world remains
San Francisco Taiko Dojo, who blend traditional and contemporary rhythms, dance
and martial arts to create the unique Tanaka style.

Asian
Art Museum of San Francisco | The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco
is the largest museum in the western world devoted exclusively to Asian art with
the permanent collections of more than 12,000 objects representing over 40 Asian
countries. The Museum regularly organizes major international exhibitions, and
presents frequent educational programs celebrating Asian arts and cultures. Currently
located in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, as a result of a bond measure passed
by votes in 1994, the Asian is scheduled to relocate to the Old Main Library building
at Civic Center in late 2000.

for Asian Art | The Society for Asian Art, a support organization
for the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, is a non profit public benefit corporation
organized in 1958 to encourage the study, understanding and enjoyment of Asian
Art. The Society conducts for members and public (1) the college accredited Arts
of Asia program that also trains the Museum's Docents in a three year program;
(2) presents lectures, study groups, workshops, symposia and special events and
operates the Exhibition Kiosk selling merchandise related to the Museum exhibitions
and collection; and (3) manages the Museum Volunteers and travel programs.

Hakone
Garden | Hakone Garden is an authentic Japanese garden located
in Saratoga including Japanese buildings, koi ponds and bamboo groves. The Hakone
Foundation is a non-profit organization raising funds for support of the gardens
and sponsoring Japanese cultural events.
