49th Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival

The 49th Annual Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival will be held on the weekends of April 9-10 and 16-17 in San Francisco’s Japantown. Every year, over 20,000 people visit the festival and it is famous as one of the largest cherry blossom festivals outside of Japan culminating in the grand parade on Sunday, April 17. The Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco will be partnering with the festival to hold several Japanese culture-related events.

(1) Sake Tasting Area

The Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco and the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival will hold a sake tasting area as part of the festival’s first weekend on Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 10. At the festival’s first area of this kind, attendees will be able to sample sake and other Japanese beverages from Japanese and local producers.

Date and Time: Saturday and Sunday, April 9-10, 11:00AM – 5:00PM
Location: San Francisco Japantown, at the corner of Post St. and Webster St.
Admission: $10 Entry (Ages 21 and over with ID only)

(2) 2nd Sakura Classic Northern California Kendama Championship

Once again, the Consulate General of Japan will be partnering with KendamaUSA to present the second “Sakura Classic” Northern California Kendama Championship on the first weekend, Saturday and Sunday, April 9-10 during the Cherry Blossom Festival. Finals will be held on the Peace Plaza Stage from 4:15PM to 5:00PM on Sunday, April 10. Kendama is a traditional Japanese ball-and-cup toy that has recently seen a boom in both America and Japan with innovative and expressive tricks and styles.

(3)The Consulate’s Information Booth

The Consulate General of Japan will hold an information booth throughout both weekends. The festival will also feature sights, sounds, and flavors for the visitors of all ages. Please come and enjoy the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival.
