   On Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24, the 33rd Annual Cupertino Cherry Blossom Festival was held in Cupertino’s Memorial Park. The Festival was organized by the Cupertino-Toyokawa Sister City Organization.

   The opening ceremony of the festival was held on Saturday, April 26th. Representing the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco, Consul Mizuho Hayakawa greeted the audience, congratulating the Festival and expressing the importance of sister city relationships. Joining her onstage were State Senator Jim Beall, Cupertino Mayor Barry Chang, the Cupertino City Council member, representatives of the Board of Education, and the 2016 Cupertino Student delegates who will travel to Toyokawa, Japan this summer. Throughout the festival, demonstrations and performances of traditional Japanese culture were held, including taiko, ikebana, traditional dance, and martial arts. The Japan Information and Cultural Center also held a booth at the festival with information on travel, culture, and education.
