2017/2/22

On Sunday, February 19, Consul General Yamada attended “A Day of Remembrance”, an event organized by the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento. The event’s opening ceremony was attended by Consul General Yamada and Congresswoman Doris Matsui.
This event was the first of its kind at the museum and held in honor of the 75th anniversary of the signing of Executive Order 9066, which imprisoned American nationals and residents of Japanese descent. The event was also timed in conjunction with three concurrent Japan-related exhibitions (“INTO THE FOLD”, “JAPANAMERICA”, and “TWO VIEWS”). Throughout the day, in addition to the Japan-related exhibits and events and speakers reflecting on the historic struggle of Japanese Americans, a number of other activities, such as ikebana (Japanese flower arranging) demonstrations, were held to introduce Japanese culture to the numerous visitors.
