2017/3/21

The Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco is pleased to announce that the two finalists from San Francisco, Mr. Brian Hu and Ms. Roda Nur, were accepted as recipients of the 2017 Japanese Government Scholarship. They will depart for Japan in April. During a Pre-Departure Orientation held at the Consulate, a lively and informative question and answer session took place after a few words of encouragement from the Director of the Japan Information and Cultural Center of the Consulate. A former alumni of the Scholarship offered the two scholars much useful advice based on his own study abroad experiences in Japan.
Mr. Hu and Ms. Nur shared their hopes and expectations while on the scholarship as follows.
Mr. Hu: "I am very excited to be pursuing my undergraduate studies through the MEXT program. Through the process of studying abroad, I'm hoping to gain lifelong friends from around the world. Moreover, I expect that studying Law in a Japanese university will give me an edge in pursuing a career international relations. However, I am thrilled overall to be granted a chance to walk a slightly different path from my peers.”
Ms. Nur: “I am excited to study and conduct research at the University of Tokyo where I will be specializing in Organic Electronics. Japan is a major hub when it comes to technology and I am excited to learn how they design and develop future technologies through internships. I am also looking forward to the opportunity to culturally immerse myself into Japanese society where I can continue building upon my Japanese language skills to reach towards fluency and to learn more about Japan.”
