20th Anniversary of California-Japan Scholars Program

Congratulatory remarks by Consul General Yamada
Speech by Ms. Shannon Shellenberg, Deputy Director of the California Senate Office of International Relations
On Wednesday, March 22, Consul General Yamada hosted a ceremony honoring the 20th anniversary of the California-Japan Scholars Program. Those in attendance included 30 students and 2 chaperones from Osaka Prefecture, 28 students and 2 Japanese teachers from Elk Grove Unified School District, Deputy Director Shannon Shellenberg and Ms. Candice Riley from the California Senate Office of International Relations, and Co-Chairs Kathleen Kimura and Allen Okamoto of the San Francisco-Osaka Sister City Association.

The California Senate Office of International Relations and Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco supports this program annually, both when Osaka students visit Elk Grove, and vice versa. In total, over 900 students have participated in the program since its inception in 1997.
