On April 7, the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco held a pre-departure orientation for the 2017 Japan Exchange & Teaching (JET) Program early departure participants, who will be helping to teach English and American culture in local schools in Japan as Assistant Language Teachers.

The three outbound JETs shared their hopes and expectations while on the JET Program as follows.
Yuviana MAI (Kobe City, Hyogo)
“I am really excited to start the new chapter of my life in Kobe. I am looking forward to sharing my ideas and culture with the teachers and students over there and experience a new side of Japan.”

Andrew CHANDLER (Shichinohe Town, Aomori)
“I am very excited and a bit nervous to be going to rural Japan! I will see this as an awesome opportunity to learn about traditional Japanese culture and language. I also can’t wait to see the Nebuta Festival and eat Aomori apples.“

Juan MARTINEZ-MENESES (Toin Town, Mie)
“I'm feeling very gracious for the opportunity to shape the minds of Japanese children through the English Language. I'm excited for this amazing opportunity to unfold and truly experience Japanese culture. I do have feelings of anxiety; however the thrill of living in Japan outweighs that.“
