Japanese Folk Music and Dance at 2017 Yerba Buena Gardens Festival

On Thursday, July 20, the Consulate General of Japan, in partnership with the 2017 Yerba Buena Gardens Festival presented a special lunchtime concert performance featuring Japanese folk music and dance. Kyle Abbott and Mike Penny of Bachido Shamisen performed both traditional Japanese pieces as well as interpretations of American folk classics on the shamisen. They were joined by Awakko-ren performing the traditional Awa Odori dance of Tokushima Prefecture. About 600 people attended this performance.
