On Sunday, July 30, Consul General Yamada attended the opening ceremony of the 2017 Shorinji Kempo World Taikai tournament held at the San Mateo Event Center. Consul General Yamada expressed his admiration for all of the participants’ dedication. 2017 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of Shorinji Kempo, a style of Japanese martial art. Around 500 students from 22 countries participated in the tournament which was held under the theme “Be the bridge - Make the world better, one person at a time”.
