Upcoming Event: J-POP SUMMIT FESTIVAL 2017

On Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10, the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco, will present a number of events focused on Japanese language and culture at the 2017 J-POP SUMMIT FESTIVAL.

This year’s J-POP SUMMIT, with a theme of “Arts, Eats, and Innovations” will introduce and feature fashion, music, design, anime culture, ramen and sake at the RAMEN SUMMIT and SAKE SUMMIT, Japanese travel at the Travel Pavilion, and Japanese cutting-edge technology.

J-POP IDOL! Team Karaoke Face-Off 2017 “Aqua vs. Pink” (Finals)

Date and Time: Sunday, September 10; 1:00PM – 2:00PM
Location: Fort Mason Center Main Stage
Overview: A karaoke contest will be held in joint sponsorship with J-POP SUMMIT Festival for young people interested in Japanese Language. This singing competition will be held between teams of finalists selected through internet-based qualifying rounds and features both returning favorites as well as fresh voices.

 

Traditional Music and Dance Performances

Date and Time: Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10;
Location: JapanKuru Travel Pavilion Stage,  Fort Mason Center
Overview: Performances of traditional music and dance will be held to showcase regions of Japan and highlight the rich traditions that still thrive alongside new developments in culture and technology, giving Japan its seemingly dual nature of future and past.

Saturday, September 9: Shamisen by Bachido
Sunday, September 10: Okinawan Drum and Dance by the Kinuko Mototake Okinawa Dance Academy and the Okinawa Eisa Shima Daiko Drummers

Consulate Information Booth

Date and Time: Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10; 11AM –5PM
Location: Fort Mason Center
Overview: In addition to introducing Japanese culture, travel, and food, the information booth will have information on the JET Program, studying abroad in Japan, and other interesting topics.
