Sunnyvale City Council Introduces Delegation from Sister City Iizuka in Fukuoka

On Tuesday, November 7, the Sunnyvale City Council formally introduced a delegation from its sister city of Iizuka in Fukuoka Prefecture at the beginning of their regular meeting. Iizuka Mayor Mr. Makoto Katamine and Iizuka City Council Chair Mr. Seiichi Fujiura each gave remarks on behalf of their city. Deputy Consul General Shoichi Nagayoshi was also introduced and delivered remarks. He expressed his hope that the tie between the two cities will continue to grow closer, and gave sincere appreciation to Mayor Glenn Hendricks, the Sunnyvale City Council, the Sunnyvale Sister City Association headed by President Mark Kato, and all of the participants and citizens.

Iizuka is located at the center of Fukuoka Prefecture on the west side of Japan, with a population of about 130,000. Sunnyvale and Iizuka became sister cities in 2016, after 3 years of being friendship cities. The Sunnyvale Sister City Association carries out a variety of programs including student exchanges, adult exchanges, robot programming classes, and picnics under fully bloomed cherry trees.
