The Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco is shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Mayor Ed Lee. Mayor Lee was the first Asian American mayor of San Francisco, and he carried that title well by working closely with the Japanese American community to preserve and enhance the city’s historic Japantown. He was a committed public servant and defender of immigrants’ rights, especially those of the Asian community. His positive energy and good-natured humor will be sorely missed. Our hearts, our thoughts, and our prayers go out to his wife, daughters, friends, and all the citizens of the City of San Francisco on this day.
