“KOGEI: Between Art and Craft”
2017/12/20

The Japan Information and Cultural Center at the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco is proud to present the exhibit “KOGEI: Between Art and Craft”. This exhibit features the artwork of several emerging Japanese artists.
The idea of a distinction and differentiation between arts and crafts emerged when culture in Japan underwent a rather dramatic transformation during the Meiji period (1868-1912), when Western technologies, concepts of government, and aesthetics began to be studied and adapted in Japan.
This exhibit includes artwork by a group of young artists from Japan whose project aims to depict contemporary Japanese culture using traditional techniques of Japanese art and craft.
We hope you will be able to visit our gallery.
