On Thursday, January 11, Consul General Yamada attended the San Francisco Japantown Foundation’s annual New Year event at Hotel Kabuki in Japantown. Consul General Yamada gives a toast after kagami biraki (ceremonial opening of the sake cask). Mochi-tsuki (ceremonial rice-pounding demonstration) was also presented by Kagami Kai, followed by a Shishimai performance. Attendees were able to enjoy osechi ryori (special Japanese New Year’s dishes) at this special annual event.
