Conferment Ceremony of Imperial Decoration to Dr. Gary Mukai

On Thursday, February 8, Consul General Yamada hosted a conferment ceremony and reception for 2017 Autumn Decoration recipient Dr. Gary Mukai, Director of Stanford Program on International and Cross-Cultural Education.
Dr. Mukai was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays for his contributions to promoting mutual understanding and strengthening the friendly relationship between Japan and the United States through his work in education, which includes the development of curriculum materials on Japan for use in K-12 schools throughout the US, development of online study courses for both American and Japanese high school students, and his unreserved support of the JET Program.
Approximately 50 people, including Dr. Mukai’s family, colleagues, and friends, were in attendance to celebrate Dr. Mukai’s outstanding achievements.
