On Monday, February 26, the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco, in partnership with UC Berkeley’s Center for Japanese Studies, the Consulate General of Mexico in San Francisco, and the Japan Foundation held a film screening of “East Side Sushi”. The film tells of a young Mexican American woman from the East Bay Area with aspirations to become a sushi chef.

Following the film, Director Anthony Lucero and Chef Tomoharu Nakamura participated in a question and answer session discussing the inspiration for the film, the impact of and on sushi in Northern California, and cultural appreciation. After the program, attendees were able to sample sushi from Chef Nakamura’s award-winning restaurant.
