CAAMFest 36 Opening Night and World Premiere of “An American Story”

On Thursday, May 10, Consul General and Mrs. Uyama attended the opening night of CAAMFest 36, the largest Asian American Film Festival in the world, which featured the world premiere of the film “An American Story: The Life and Legacy of Norman Mineta” at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco. This biographical documentary tells the story of Norman Mineta, the first Asian American mayor of a major US city who eventually became a cabinet member in two Presidential administrations. During the program, Secretary Mineta received an award from the City of San Francisco. Also in attendance were film director Dianne Fukami, producer Debra Nakatomi, Ambassador John Roos, former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, and a number of California State and local officials and Asian American community leaders.
