Conferment Ceremony of Imperial Decoration for Mr. Lawson Iichiro Sakai

On Sunday, December 9, Consul General Uyama hosted a conferment ceremony and reception for the 2018 Autumn Decoration bestowed upon Mr. Lawson Iichiro Sakai.
Mr. Sakai was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, for his contributions to improving the status of Japanese Americans in the United States and preservation of Japanese American veterans history.
Over the course of 30 years, Mr. Sakai has acted as a leader of the Northern California 442nd Regimental Combat Team E Company veterans group to preserve its honorable history through public education and communication amongst its members.
Currently 95 years old, Mr. Sakai remains an active and well-respected speaker on Japanese American history and Japanese American veterans in Northern California.
Approximately 40 people, including friends and family of Mr. Sakai, were in attendance to celebrate Mr. Sakai’s numerous achievements.
