On Sunday, December 30, Consul General Tomochika Uyama attended and gave remarks at the 33rd Annual Japanese End of Year Bell Ringing Ceremony hosted by the Asian Art Museum. During this event, attendees have the chance to experience a Japanese New Year tradition locally by closing out the previous year and ringing in the new.

The event began with a purification ritual and chanting of the Buddhist Heart Sutra by Reverend Gengo Akiba. Consul General Uyama then rang the bell, followed by members of the Museum and general public, welcoming a happy 2019.
