2019 New Year’s Cocktail Reception

Toast by Mr. Tadao Ogaki, President of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Northern California
On Tuesday, January 15, Consul General Tomochika Uyama hosted a New Year’s celebration at his official residence. About 300 guests attended the event.

In his remarks, Consul General Uyama wished guests a happy new year and spoke of the efforts to strengthen U.S.-Japan relations in the area. Following Consul General Uyama, Mr. Tadao Ogaki, President of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Northern California, offered a toast.

On the residence’s terrace, mochi-tsuki (ceremonial rice-pounding) was performed by Kagami Kai, a group based in San Francisco. New Year’s decorations of bamboo and pine were placed around the entrance. Ikebana flower arrangements by the Northern California Chapter of the Ohara School of Ikebana were displayed throughout the residence. Guests enjoyed osechi ryori (Japanese New Year’s food) throughout the evening.
