Consul General Uyama welcomes everyone
Honorary Consul in Las Vegas Kathleen Blakely delivers remarks
On Thursday, January 24, Consul General Tomochika Uyama, together with Honorary Consul in Las Vegas Kathleen Blakely, hosted a New Year’s celebration in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Around 100 guests joined the reception, including representatives of state and local governments, representatives from local Japan-affiliated companies, and members of community organizations.

In his remarks, Consul General Uyama reflected on the growing relationship between Japan and the state of Nevada, and thanked all the guests for their efforts to enhance this friendship. Following the presentation, several guests participated in a kagami biraki (ceremonial sake cask opening ceremony) and Ms. Fumie Suguri, three-time World medalist figure skater, offered a toast. The Consul General’s Commendation was presented to Ms. Kika Shibata, an instructor at the Sogetsu School, for her work in promoting understanding of Japan and strengthening U.S.-Japan ties through ikebana.

Beautiful ikebana flower arrangements from the Sogetsu School were on display at the venue. Guests also enjoyed live music by Ms. Yoko Fitzpatrick, Mr. Dennis Fitzpatrick, and Ms. Yuki Hart throughout the evening.
