On Thursday, February 28 Deputy Consul General Iryu attended the “Kindergarten to College” program organized by the city and country of San Francisco and gave encouragement to the students in Rosa Parks Elementary school’s Japanese Bilingual Bicultural Program (JBBP) kindergarten class who were able to learn about the importance of saving money for college. The “Kindergarten to College” program is a college savings deposit program for students in the lower grades established by the city of San Francisco. Students in the lower grades from kindergarten through elementary school learn the importance of going on to college and saving money for it by opening their own bank accounts for that purpose. Students who live in San Francisco are eligible for a $50 dollar incentive from the city.
