On Monday, March 4, the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco, in partnership with the Japan Society of Northern California, presented “Chair Zazen Workshop and Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage Story”. The program was held at TOTO Concept 190 in San Francisco, and around 70 guests attended.

Japan Society President Mr. Larry Greenwood began the program by welcoming the audience, followed by remarks from Deputy Consul General Kazuhiro Iryu.

Professor Jeffrey Dym of Sacramento State University presented on the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, a 1,200 km circuit that connects 88 temples around the island of Shikoku. Priest Enko Sakai of the Myojoin Temple in Aichi Prefecture talked about zen meditation and led the audience in a workshop, which culminated in 10 minutes of meditation. Afterward, Professor Dym and Priest Sakai participated in a joint Q&A with the audience.
