Discover Japanese Railways: A Presentation by Kan Sakurai

The Consulate General of Japan, in partnership with the Japan Society and the California State Railroad Museum, is proud to present two special lectures by Japanese train expert & photojournalist Kan Sakurai, who will provide a unique look into Japanese railway culture from an insider’s perspective. Join us on Wednesday, May 15 in San Jose, and Thursday, May 16 in Sacramento to learn more about Japanese train culture and technology.
About Kan Sakurai

Kan Sakurai grew up surrounded by trains as a child in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. This fascination developed into a love for railroad photography and a career as a freelance photojournalist. Sakurai has traveled extensively throughout Japan and visited 95 countries, authoring or co-authoring nearly 100 articles on trains along the way. Currently, he is a visiting professor at the Tokyo College of Transport Studies and a regular contributor to several photography- and railway-related publications.
