On Friday, September 20, Consul General Uyama hosted a welcome reception for the 20th Pan American Nikkei Convention (COPANI) 2019 at his official residence. Around 210 guests attended the reception, including former U.S. Secretary of Transportation & U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Mr. Norman Mineta, local Consuls General of the home countries of COPANI participants, and representatives of the local Japanese American community in San Francisco. The reception was an opportunity for COPANI participants from North and South America to deepen their friendship. Ambassador Satoru Satoh, Special Envoy for Collaboration with Communities of "Nikkei" in Latin America and the Caribbean, traveled from Japan for the convention and participated in the reception and delivered congratulatory remarks.
