Ambassador Satoru Satoh, Special Envoy for Collaboration with Communities of “Nikkei” in Latin America and the Caribbean, traveled from Japan for the convention and gave remarks in Spanish at the opening ceremony. During the main program, Mr. Norman Mineta, who served in two Cabinet positions as U.S. Secretary of Commerce and Secretary of Transportation, gave the keynote address. The approximately 250 attendees, Japanese descendants from North and South America, engaged in lectures, workshops, and panel discussions. Through these activities, participants were able to share their experiences as Nikkei (Japanese descendants) with each other and discuss the challenges facing the next generation.
