On Monday, October 28, members and affiliates of the Niigata University Sakeology Center visited Northern California and met with faculty at UC Davis and The Culinary Institute of America (CIA). Consulate officials accompanied the delegation on their visits.

At UC Davis, delegates were treated to a tour of the Robert Mondavi Institute’s Wine Education and Research Facility and met with professors from the Viticulture & Enology and Food Science & Technology Departments. Faculty from both universities gave presentations on their respective educational, research, and exchange systems, and discussions were held to seek future collaboration between students and faculty.

The delegation also stopped at CIA’s Copia campus to learn about sake education programs in the United States. The two institutes agreed to keep open communication on new research and market developments.

It is hoped that the Sakeology Center’s visit will further advance overseas interest in sake science.
