On Friday, February 21, the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco, in partnership with Asia Society Northern California, held a screening of the film “Norman Mineta & His Legacy: An American Story” in San Francisco. The documentary tells the life story of Norman Mineta, who was sent to a U.S. World War II Japanese American internment camp as a young child. He became the first Asian American mayor of a major city (San Jose, CA) and the first Asian American Cabinet member, serving two U.S. presidents. Following the film, an on-stage discussion was held between the film’s Director Dianne Fukami, Co-Producer Debra Nakatomi, and David Mineta, son of Mr. Mineta.
