On April 29, 2020 (Japan Time), the Government of Japan announced the recipients of the 2020 Spring Conferment of Japanese Decorations.
Ms. Kuniko Takeuchi, who resides within the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco’s jurisdiction will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays.

Summary of Contributions:
- Ms. Kuniko Takeuchi served in coaching and technical positions for the U.S. Women’s national judo team at multiple international competitions between the years of 1986 and 1993, and as technical staff for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
- Ms. Takeuchi has helped to define the quality of judo in the United States through her administrative roles in USA Judo, serving on multiple subcommittees including promotion and judging, and serving as a USA Judo National Kata Judge.
- Ms. Takeuchi has served as a judo instructor in Sacramento since 1968, promoting judo alongside sportsmanship, etiquette and technical skills to her students for over 50 years.
