Consul General Maeda delivers remarks
Planting camphor trees at California Health Sciences University
On Thursday, August 6, Consul General Maeda participated in a virtual tree planting ceremony at the California Health Sciences University (CHSU) to commemorate 75 years of peace since the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. During his remarks, he honored the memory of victims and reflected on their lives so that the same tragedies will not be repeated. He also said that Japan and the U.S. were able to mend their relationship despite the painful history of World War II, and became the closest friends and allies, to which the grassroots ties between the two countries have greatly contributed. The camphor tree planted at the university is a descendant of trees in Hiroshima that survived the bombing in 1945.
