On Friday, December 4, the Japan Society of Northern California held its 34th Annual Award of Honor Gala online. This year, former Prime Minister of Japan, H.E. Abe Shinzo received the Award of Honor. Ambassador Deborah L. Birx, M.D., White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator, and Dr. Shinya Yamanaka, Senior Investigator at Gladstone Institutes and one of two winners of the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, each received the 2020 Humanitarian Award. Consul General Maeda delivered remarks, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco and the history of Japan-U.S. relations in Northern California.
