DRIVE MY CAR at the 44th Mill Valley Film Festival

The Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco partnered with the California Film Institute (CFI) for screenings of the Japanese film DRIVE MY CAR at the 44th Mill Valley Film Festival (MVFF). The first screening was on Sunday, October 10 at the Mill Valley Sequoia Theater, and the second one on Sunday, October 17 at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive.
Deputy Consul General Higuchi attended the first screening on Sunday, October 10, and gave remarks. This was the West Coast premiere of the Cannes Film Festival award-winning film by director Ryusuke Hamaguchi, based on the short story of the same name by author Haruki Murakami.
DRIVE MY CAR has been selected as Japan’s official entry for Best International Feature Film to the 94th Academy Awards, to be held in 2022.
CFI followed strict precautions to ensure the safety of the audience for these screenings.
