On Sunday, April 24, Consul General Hiroshi Kawamura delivered remarks at the 2022 Nikkei Matsuri in historic San Jose Japantown. In his remarks, Consul General Kawamura thanked the organizers for holding the first in-person iteration of the festival since 2019, stating the importance of Japantown expressing pride in its culture.
Since 1978, the Nikkei Matsuri festival has showcased the history and cultural heritage of the Japanese American community through exhibits, demonstrations, and performances, including San Jose Taiko, in the heart of San Jose Japantown. The Consulate also held an information booth to promote the JET program, tourism, and Japanese culture.
