Karaoke Contest for Japanese Language Learners at CSU Sacramento
2022/5/3

On Sunday, April 24, a karaoke contest for Japanese language learners in the Greater Sacramento area was held at California State University, Sacramento. The Consulate’s Advisor for Cultural and Educational Affairs, Ms. Ishii participated as a judge.
The event was held in place of the annual Sacramento Japanese language speech contest to encourage Japanese language learners who have studied hard during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was organized by the California Association of Japanese Language Teachers, the Northern California Japanese Teachers’ Association, and the Karaoke Committee consisting of volunteers from Japanese language teachers in the area. 31 middle school-through-university students participated, showcasing their language skills and talents through a variety of Japanese songs.
The contest coincided with Sacramento State’s “Japan Day”, an on-campus Japan-themed festival organized by the university’s Japan Club. The event featured performances and booths introducing Japanese language, culture, and sister city relationships.
