Consul General Kawamura Co-Hosts Virtual California-Japan Sister Cities Workshop
2022/7/5

On Friday, June 24, 2022, Consul General of Japan in San Francisco Hiroshi Kawamura, Consul General of Japan in Los Angeles Akira Muto, and the California-Japan Sister Cities Network (CJSCN) co-hosted the virtual 2022 California-Japan Sister Cities Spring Workshop. Representatives of sister city relationships in both Northern and Southern California, as well as Japan, were invited. Under the theme of “Reignite the Sister City Community!: Spotlight on Fundraising”, participants learned about the different ways a sister city program can be funded, in addition to discussing future plans for restarting their in-person exchanges during breakout sessions.
Attendees were treated to a special video message from California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, who encouraged sister cities programs to keep up their citizen diplomacy and continue working towards building closer ties between California and Japan.
In his remarks, Consul General Kawamura also addressed the passing of lifetime sister cities champion Secretary Norman Mineta, saying that he hoped the attendees would carry on his spirit by continuing their grassroots exchanges into the future.
