JET Information Session and Japanese Culture Presentation

2022/10/6
On Friday, September 30th, consulate staff visited CSU Fresno to give presentations on the Japan Exchange & Teaching (JET) Program and Japanese culture. This was the first time that consulate staff had presented at Fresno State since 2019. Approximately 70 people attended, including the Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities Honora Howell Chapman, Associate Dean Sergio La Porta, Japanese language learners, and community members.

At the JET Program information session, Program Coordinator, Kai Wiesner-Hanks introduced the JET Program and explained how students can apply for the program to potentially work in Japan in the future. Following that, Advisor for Cultural and Educational Affairs, Yumiko Ishii gave the presentation "What are Yokai? The Mysterious Beings", introducing the history and background of Yokai and explaining their origin and role in Japanese culture from ancient times through to today. The theme was selected as a tie-in to the approaching season of Halloween.
