On Monday, October 17, Professor T.J. Pempel was presented the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon by Consul General Noguchi at a ceremony and reception held at the University of California, Berkeley. This program was made possible with support from UC Berkeley’s Center for Japanese Studies.
Professor Pempel was recognized in the 2022 Spring Conferment of Japanese Decorations for his role in the development of Japanese studies in the United States, as well as his efforts to connect academia with diplomacy and public policy.
