On Wednesday, February 8, the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco, Digital Garage, Inc., and the Japan Society of Northern California co-hosted a seminar entitled, "State of Web3/Metaverse – Topics of Silicon Valley and Japan Connection."

In the program, eight field-leading companies (Nonagon Capital, Webacy, DeStore, DeMind, SuperLocal, Parasol, Hatoyama Studio, Ripple) gave presentations on their pioneering efforts. Seven companies (Digital Garage, NTT DoCoMo Ventures, HITACHI America, SONY Ventures, Marubeni Ventures, FamieeProject & Hottolink, NIREMIA Collective Founder) gave presentations on initiatives from the perspective of Japanese companies, and addressed challenges in industrial development and expectations for solving social issues. After the session, attendees enjoyed networking with refreshments.

In Consul General Noguchi’s opening remarks, he noted that that many companies in the public and private sector are closely watching how Web3/Metaverse will develop and are considering how to engage in it. He also announced that the Japanese government adopted the Basic Policy 2022, which will create new policies in this area. Keidanren (the Japan Business Federation) is leading the Japanese private sector in the development of a Web3 promotion strategy. Consul General Noguchi expressed optimism that the event would provide further opportunities to exchange knowledge on Web3/Metaverse between Japan and California.
