Remarks by Consul General Noguchi
On Wednesday, February 22, Consul General and Mrs. Noguchi hosted a reception at their official residence in celebration of the Emperor of Japan’s birthday on February 23. About 200 guests attended the event, including Lieutenant Governor of California Eleni Kounalakis and leaders of a diverse array of Northern and Central California organizations.

In his remarks, Consul General Noguchi, spoke on the partnership between Japan and California and their shared values in democracy in the Asia-Pacific region as economic leaders. In consideration of such international issues as climate change, he advanced the potential for progress in further strengthening the existing bonds between Japan and California. Lieutenant Governor Kounalakis gave a congratulatory address mentioning Japan and California’s destiny as partners with high expectations for even deeper cooperation going forward. The address was followed by a toast from former Ambassador of Japan to the United States, Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki.

Guests enjoyed displays promoting Japanese railways, the charm of Japanese cities, and Japanese rice.
